Why do societies fail? With lessons from the Norse of Iron Age Greenland, deforested Easter Island and present-day Montana, Jared Diamond talks about the signs that collapse is near, and how – if we see it in time – we can prevent it.

About Jared Diamond

Jared Diamond is an award-winning scholar of ecology, biology and history, and best-selling author of Guns, Germs and Steel and Collapse: How Societies Choose to Fail or Succeed.

You are right, I did not look far enough.

Jared Diamond considered environment (soil quality, precipitation, etc) as only one factor out of several that have determined the evolution of various civilizations. Perhaps it was the lack of domesticable animals, the lack of indigenous high-nutrition plants (like rice and wheat) and the difficulty of engaging in long-range trade due to a vertical geography, that had more effect on the development of Africa, not just the soil thickness and fertility.

But Scroll down past headers, tag widgets and others RSS. It's not a big job.
There is only one post by me on the page as indicated by the link. In fact JR Barendse Leiden made his points in 2000. The exact date is given on my post. Real experienced frontline troups the Dutch having faced most of the events predicted to increase globally.

I am glad you liked the video.

I was trying to use the URL you posted. It does not seem to lead to a specific article. Can you check and re-post it? Thanks.
