My Conservation Park, a new Facebook game app

Forget Farmville. A new conservation-themed game app challenges players to protect endangered wildlife in a virtual world. If they're successful, it could save endangered species in the real world.

Facebook games can be a major time-sink. But what if you were actually doing some good every time you logged on to play?

That's the motivation behind the latest offering from Good World Games: a new, planet-conscious app for Facebook that is all about protecting wildlife and the environment–in the virtual world and beyond.

In MyConservationPark, which launches later this week, players are challenged to create and sustain a livable habitat for endangered animals like tigers and orangutans while protecting the animals from human and environmental threats.

The better the animal's habitat, the more Conservation Cash and Good World Game you earn. Buy assets to improve your park like plants, animals and park rangers and improve your hero animal's habitat.

Creature needed!

We all spend plenty of time in front of a screen, but this game has the potential to reach a demographic that's not typically concerned about the environment or species extinction.

Challenges and successes in the game demonstrate exactly how difficult it is to protect a species that's been affected by pollution or habitat loss. And players will have the satisfaction of knowing that their efforts in the game are making a difference in the real world.

Fifteen percent of every in-game purchase, whether park rangers or plants, is donated directly to conservation organizations like the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund and Sea Shepherd.
