The Happy Planet Index is an innovative new measure that shows the ecological efficiency with which human well-being is delivered.
It is the first ever index to combine environmental impact with human well-being to measure the environmental efficiency with which country by country, people live long and happy lives.

Malaysia's Happy Planet Index is 52.7, and is ranked 44/178. Is this good? :D

More detail is available on Europe on the Happy Planet Index's Web site. This is an important measurement... it measures what we SHOULD feel as our own happiness. Like a drunken gambler, we can spend our riches of natural resources and feel darn good about having a good time until they run out. When you take into account that person's future difficulties, you could say they are not truly happy (as a whole person) even today, but are self-deceived. Do you see the analogy to today's world in the developed, successful countries? I think you do.
My lifelong pursuit, since age 18, has been to live more fully and find wisdom. This has involved studies with Zen masters, Tai Chi masters, and great psychotherapists while achieving my license as a gestalt therapist and psychoanalyst.
Along the way, I became aware of how the planet is under great stress due to the driven nature of human activity on this planet.
I believe that the advancement of human well-being will reduce societies addictive behaviors, and will thus also help preserve the environment and perhaps slow down the effects of global warming and other major threats to the health of human societies.
