If you have room for a birdtable in your backyard or garden, remember to add fresh food daily and to clear away anything mouldy. Birds will come to rely upon your services, especially during winter weather, so regular feeding is important.
Peanuts (groundnuts) and other nuts should always be put into a mesh feeder as some birds can choke on whole nuts.
If you have fruit trees and you cannot eat or give away all your produce don't feel that the fruit is wasted. many birds and other creatures will benefit. Birds such as blackbirds need fruit to be softer than we would like (over-ripe), so resist the urge to clear away windfalls!

Hmm... I guess feeding them for two weeks and then leaving the feeder empty for a week is not a good idea... time to go outside and fill it up!
I am writing for a website on easy green living tips and ideas. The purpose is to promote easy lifestyle changes which will result in a lighter footprint on our planet for individuals and families.
My background is in health and education.
I think permaculture and transition initiatives are needed to get people living a more planet-friendly and people-friendly lifestyle. The economic system needs to shift away from private profit to a more wealth-sharing model. We need to make the change from the bottom up.
