Hockfield testifying to Congress"We stand on the verge of a global energy technology revolution," MIT President Susan Hockfield told Congress Sept. 10, but, she explained, a sharp increase in federal funding is required to advance America's prospects for clean, renewable, low-carbon energy technologies, which could have positive economic, political, and ecological consequences.

MIT President Hockfield addressed (see the video) "the triple knot of economic insecurity, energy insecurity, and global climate change" at a press conference at the National Press Club, Sept. 17, joined by David Bell '78, head of Intersil Corporation, and Uma Chowdhry PhD '76, DuPont's senior vice president.

I think funding of alternative energy research and development, in general, is better than doing things like giving a $300 million prize to a battery package to leapfrog automotive car development.
