Here we are, on the edge of a collapse of the economy, and lawmakers in Washington are getting ready to take a month long break so they can go do some campaigning.

Are they the most negligent politicians ever?

The "bailout" is just a stop-gap measure to attempt to increase confidence. It does little if anything to address the core problems of the financial system and the economy. Does it make sense for the lawmakers to take off and to hope things will work out?

It is delinquent that with our nation facing what may turn out to be the greatest crisis of all time that these individuals abandon the critical work, the real in-depth work, that needs desperately to be done.

My stomach turns just contemplating such clueless thinking.

"At a minimum, they should be required to send it back to the farms that grew the cattle first."

Oh, no, Auntie! That would require REGULATION, and we all know how terrible that is. Next thing you know, we would be allowing government to moderate what we do in all aspects of our lives, and the whole economy might choke and people would be unable to lend each other money and feel happy. Oh, no, regulation is BAD. I hope that is straightened out now!

On another tack: this paragraph came from a story about the pollution from hurricane Ike: "Along the Houston Ship Channel, a tanker truck floating in 12-feet-high flood waters slammed into a storage tank at the largest biodiesel refinery in the country, causing a leak of roughly 2,100 gallons of vegetable oil. The plant, owned by GreenHunter Energy Inc., uses chicken fat and beef tallow to make biodiesel shipped overseas. It opened just months earlier."

Why, for heaven's sake, are we taking the petro-intensive remains of cattle and chickens turned into biodiesel, and SHIPPING IT OVERSEAS? (Yes, I know all about 'the market will bear', but you gotta draw a line SOMEwhere)

At a minimum, they should be required to send it back to the farms that grew the cattle first.

The black triangles aren't necessarily aliens (search "Ohare UFO sighting"). They're probably 'us'. The government has likely been hiding energy technology and alien contact since the '40's, but since the oil companies run our government, it has been suppressed. Yes, I know, it sounds like 'tinfoil hat stuff', but you didn't even KNOW about the black triangles, and the former GOVERNOR of Arizona admitted to seeing one the size of Phoenix (once he was out of office...he first played like it didn't happen until hundreds of people confronted him with what they saw). The reason we went into Iraq was to 'stabilize' the price of oil (Hussein was monkeying with the markets), (see Greg Palast:"Armed Madhouse") but it backfired when the prices went to >100 instead of the 30 they wanted for Texas crude, and Suburbia became obsolete much faster than it was expected to (Mortgage crisis). What they risked was a war with Russia/China getting involved and cutting off the Strait of Hormuz (why war with Iran is not really a possibility at this point).

Just because something sounds like a conspiracy, doesn't mean it isn't true. Believing our government is what it is purported to be (constitutional elected people running things) is more of a religion than reality. Even without any secret 'agency', our bureaucratic government operates by the inertia of the civil servants more than the direction of representatives (been there, done that). It's too big to fix, too big to take it apart. We can only watch and wait and see where things topple, trying to stay out of the way of the cleanup crews that may try to rebuild it or to simply salvage the resources. Depends on Darth's plan, but "The land and the people will go on."- ("The Good Earth").

Oh, and the existence of the triangles doesn't mean their operations are controlled by Darth, just that he probably knows about them and the technology. That gives him confidence enough to continue our headlong rush to burn up as much oil as fast as possible at the highest price simply for the sake of profit and influence. When Gary McKinnon hacked the pentagon, he found evidence of an 'extraterrestrial command' of some type which included ships and officers' names for transfers, etc. Not the kind of thing that can be connected with the farce we call an 'election'.

Had enough yet? It gets better every year. Reality is not what our tax dollars have paid for. 'Modern Science' is mostly just propaganda and fantasy.
Just ask your plants and see what they say...("The Lost Language of Plants" by Stephen Buhner)

;-) Isn't this FUN? That's all it can be, since none of this information is useful in deciding how to live your local life. We allow it all to happen because we DON'T want to know, or even to look in the rabbit holes we pass each day, since there just might be some nasty badger or dead thing in there. Better to just ignore it and maybe a nice pretty fox will move in later.

OK, Aunt, can you tell me why we (our government) risked destroying oil supplies? How did we risk that? Etc, etc. I just now looked up black triangles, but never heard of them before. Fortunately, in my view it does not matter if aliens land. If they attack us, that might be different...

Oh, we're gonna be surprised, alright. Whether it is going to be a "save the world" surprise (search "black triangle sightings map") or a "depopulation" surprise is yet to be determined.
The question is not "Where is Congress?", but "Where is Darth Cheney and what is HE doing right now?"
There's a REASON that we went into Iraq and risked destroying half the world's oil supplies without hesitation, and it isn't just because GW got ambitious all of a sudden and wanted to revenge his 'daddy'. There really ARE people who run the world, and they aren't the ones anybody votes for (except with our dollars).

Maybe we can still be surprised.

Aaron has done great work in a short time. I wish I had any energy left. Thinking about the current situations of political and economic clusterf&#k and what COULD have been done to prevent it adds to my propensity for depression and I just feel too tired to do anything. I feel like a caged animal that has spent it's energy chewing and attacking the bars and now just lies there, staring at the world, too tired to walk out the door if it's left open.
I see people around me that have never been outside the cage and are quite happy with their lethargy: born in captivity and nothing to die for except maintaining their captivity. To them, the zookeepers are GOOD people who bring the food every day and make cooing noises. Beyond the cage are strange noises and fear.
