I like to see the newsletters and books more as ”sketches” rather like Leonardo daVinci might have done.
The idea is to get people thinking.... So it’s cool i GOTTCHA!
Of course I have thought too... so I’ll give you my angle, but they are just thoughts as I have no access to industry ( well, very little)
If I were in China right now, I’d be encouraging them to look into manufacturing the ”bits” needed to make underground transport systems.
Standardised sections, control systems, rails, propulsion, would mean they could offer retrofit services to cities all over the world, after cutting their teeth on their own. Actually, ANY country could make that facility and get a head start.
BTW, the canals of England were dug by hand and with coal-powered diggers ( I saw some in a museum) and so was the first ever underground system, London. I call it green gym...... Hey we’d get fit.... We could chat whilst we dug... At last we could do a guy thing!!!!!! And feel good about drinking beer afterwards
Radiality is ONE response to the need to make walkable cities. I hope people will think of others. In the book, the city is retrofitted around radial lines. It was fairly flat to begin with.
New cities in China could uses radiality, although I would love to think a retrofit is possible. Some European cities, the old ones, are designed this way. Milan used to have covered walkways. Steve
The video is interesting; are there many opportunities to design radiality from scratch? (I'm more of a Gaviotas fan.) I suppose that your ideas are best implemented in times of energy sufficiency since they seem to require some tunneling and aquatic terraforming. Larry
