T. Boone Pickens Makes a Prediction on relief wells in the Gulf; click to see the videoI still don't believe the 35,000 minimum to 60,000 barrels per day upper limit that the experts are now quoting, but they are getting within shouting distance.

BP and the government (following BP's lead) started by chanting 1,000 barrels a day, and then for quite some time, 5,000 barrels a day.  Scientists are now saying 35,000 to 60,000 barrels a day, and BP laughably says the amount does not matter, they will just clean it all up.  Unfortunately, lack of accuracy in revealing the rate of the leak also means the tankers they have in position can only handle less than 15,000 barrels per day.  They are now requesting another tanker to get there, and other equipment, to up capacity to 53,000 barrels daily.

But in any case I believe that government members, even those with no financial vested interest, want to be optimistic.  Only scientists (the good ones) have the discipline that tends to make their projections more accurate, within known error limits.  They have been stating ranges from 20,000 to 100,000 (with large margins of error) for over one month now.

Meanwhile, the relief wells that will really stop the oil leak... August, you say?  Well, that is what everyone has been saying since April 20th.  I do not believe it.  And now, I have support from T. Boone Pickens, a leading oil and gas expert.  Watch the video.

The moral is, lying liars continue to lie, as has always been the case.  And sleepy government officials and citizens are too comfortable to challenge the corporate messages with independent investigation and thinking.

But I do have optimism – people, the average person, will one day rise to challenge this situation.  Right now, our United States society is in denial of what we are doing wrong and as a result, we are hurting ourselves.  We send about one billion dollars daily overseas for energy that could be supplied here by wind, water, and sunlight.

We are in denial, the first stage of addiction, but there is a way out.  The next steps are anger, negotiating, sadness (depression), and finally, understanding and acceptance, and may I add, effective action.  We are just at the beginning, when our president continues to spin vague dreamy messages.  A nice man, but he has not grabbed the bull by the horns.

"The Week" is asking: "Could BP's liability grow to $60 billion - and lead to bankruptcy?" I hope it does. I don't think they should be left in a position where they could ever again cause the type of damage or maybe even more damage, than they have done. In other areas of our society, people and groups are stopped when they do something, intentionally or unintentionally, that causes great harm. I think they should be treated the same.way.

I believe that the advancement of human well-being will reduce societies addictive behaviors, and will thus also help preserve the environment and perhaps slow down the effects of global warming and other major threats to the health of human societies.
