See the first flight over the Alps by the Sunseeker II aircraft, powered by the sun!
This occurred 99 years after the first flight over the Alps by Geo Chávez; the pilot and airplane designer and builder in 2009 is Eric Raymond.
"It was pretty cloudy, but after I reached enough altitude above the clouds I continued the flight with only energy from the sun. It was amazing to see Materhorn AND Mont Blanc through the clouds!", he said.
Sunseeker II draws energy from the batteries on takeoff and landing, but once at sufficient height it can move on solar energy alone, at a speed of 65 km / hr. If further battery energy is used, speed can reach 130 kilometers / hr.
